PROJECT FUNDING

The IUEP features an annual competitive RFP process to select international environmentally-friendly project proposals. The RFP process will be similar to that used in prior years. This year, the IUEP will advertise the RFP more broadly, keep the RFP open for a longer period of time and make every effort to include U.S. manufacturers and developers, particularly those related to renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency projects. The IUEP will also continue to lead the International Power Partnerships program (IPP), which represents the international component of the Power Partners initiative, a joint government-industry initiative to reduce emissions through collaboration with investor-owned electric companies and DOE. Part of the mission of the Power Partners is to partner with U.S. government agencies and both private and public international organizations to strengthen collaboration and investment in clean energy technologies between the U.S. and the developing world.

The project development grant will fund the following activities in support of the IUEP program goals:

  1. conduct a new, more broad, RFP process for U.S. manufacturers and developers, particularly those related to renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency projects;

  2. continue to support the IUEP and the Power Partners' member companies interested in developing international emissions reduction projects;

  3. create new partnerships under the IPP initiative to incubate future development opportunities; and

  4. provide a program mechanism for the U.S investor-owned electric industry to partner with the developing world to take a leadership role in emissions reduction projects;

  5. sponsor a number of international GHG reduction projects that demonstrate real-world solutions to reduce GHG emissions;

  6. continue to support projects funded in prior years by providing technical, organizational and intergovernmental support to ensure ongoing development projects have every opportunity to succeed; and

  7. disseminate the lessons learned from these project development activities to the Administration, DOE, and stakeholders in the private sector to facilitate their understanding of GHG reduction strategies and international project development activities.
