Forest
Fazenda São Francisco - Urucuia is a
forest protection and sustainable
management project situated at the State
of Minas Gerais, Municipality of Urucaia,
with the cultivation of 9.800,00 hectares
of Eucalyptus. The project is an
initiative to sequester 5.5 million metric
tons equivalent of CO2 emissions. The land
is owned and managed by Urucuia
Agropecuaria Industrial Ltd.. The project
will be submitted for certification under
the United States Initiative on Joint
Implementation (USIJI). Clean Air S. A., a
CO2 rights Development Company has
identified the project and will assist
Urucuia Agropecuaria in the development of
the CO2 emissions component of the
project. The total project cost is
approximately $ 9.8 million.
A
program of massive forest growing can both
provide raw materials and also play a very
important role in the reduction of CO2
emissions that will contribute to the
challenges of greenhouse gas emission
reductions in the world. The project will
consist of establishing a reforestation
project, to be developed in a rural
property situated at the State of Minas
Gerais, Municipality of Urucaia. The
establishment of the forest will be
gradual, cultivating 1.400 hectares per
year during seven years (2002 - 2008). A
eucalyptus-reforesting lifetime may reach
21 years, that is, 3 harvests, one every
year for seven years. The predominant
vegetation at the planned site is
"Savannah Park", the soils in
the area are "Latosoil
Red-Yellow". The climate, according
to Kopen classification, is
"Aw". The yearly averages of
pluvial precipitation is approximately
1.000 mm with a average temperature of 22º
C. |
