Executive Summary

Reforestation of the Dos Bois River Valley is a forest protection and sustainable management project that was initially conceived to be a guideline for the "Rio dos Bois" basin's recuperation, including water, sewage, waste, reforestation and forestation. The "Rio dos Bois" is a tributary of Paranaíba River one of the most important in the Paraná Basin. The project is an initiative to sequester 8.1 million metric tons equivalent of CO2 emissions. The project will be submitted for certification under the United States Initiative on Joint Implementation (USIJI). Clean Air S. A., a CO2 rights Development Company has identified the project and will assist in the CO2 emissions component of the project. The total project cost is approximately $24 million to be invested in a total of seven years (2003 - 2008).

The reforestation and forestation activities will include the reforestation of approximately 40.000 hectares of Eucalyptus. These forests will be constituted both by natural and commercial species. The study will define the best combination between natural and commercial species, and if it is possible to conduct wood exploitation.
