Baseline Calculation:
The installed generating capacity of the
Peruvian electric power sector reached
5,741.98 MW in the year 2000. Of this
capacity, 47% is hydropower and 53% is
thermal power.
Key Baseline Parameters:
-
The baseline is based on
data for the year 2000.
-
Static baseline
methodology was applied to calculate
emissions. The proportions determined on
generated electricity in 2000 are
assumed to hold constant for the
baseline duration.
-
It is estimated that the
Huanza project will displace 358 GWh
from thermal power plants.
-
Proportions of the fuel
mix for 2000 have been calculated based
on generation output data per thermal
plant as officially published by the
Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines
(Anuario Estadistico, Ministerio de
Energía y Minas). The proportions are
diesel (65%), coal (6%), natural gas
(12%) and bunker oil (17%).
-
Based on these
parameters and the proportions of the
fuel mix for thermal power, the emission
reductions for the baseline scenario are
277,654 t of CO2 per year.
